Have had a small leak from the power steering pump, which was fixed by dealer but I am now getting a whine when car is cold or nearly on full lock. Does this mean the fluid is low or is there something more serious?

SL320 Power stearing

Yes, but this should not happen on half lock, or it never used to and I have had 8 different Mercs over the years, none made this noise. I am sure that this new noise is not normal. Have had the car for thirteen months and it has only just started to happen. I initially put it down to the cold weather but now it is warmer is still happening

Ok,that is different, I think that you will have to go back to the dealer, what did they do to fix the leak ?

Mine started making a noise when the fluid was a bit low. A top up stopped the noise. Check your reservoir just in case.

If the fluid is fine then I'd check the steering damper - a fairly common failure item and easily replaced yourself for £30.

Checked the reservoir this afternoon and it's only just on the bottom of the dipstick so I think that must be the problem. Thanks for the advice.:)
