Hello, not sure if this is the correct place to post......

I have just bought a 2007 sl350.
When I try to open the roof, the boot opens about 6 inches, I then have to release the operating switch and pull again, it opens another cple of inches, I repeat and it opens another cple inches, but then stops all together. It's very slow to open this much ( about 2 minutes). Any thoughts? Thanks

There's a strict sequence of things to move and operate various switches for the roof to open
On my SL the flap motor had got out of sync ( so I'm told) so the roof wouldn't move from halfway open.
I'd close it again if you can and visit an Indy

Somewhere in here there is a repair story on flap motor gear drives which I suspect is Yr issue. Hopefully someone will be able to point you to that.

I don't think it gets far enough along the cycle, boot only opens about 10 inches and takes a couple minutes to do this

Whoever sold it , dealer or private they are liable for the fault .

An icarsoft code reader will show any sensor fault codes for the roof fault (£100-150?)

Have you tried giving the boot a helping hand while someone operates the switch?
Our SLC used to stop before the boot was fully opened, I gave it a helping hand, as well as working the boot lid back and forwards to make sure it was not something sticking and it worked perfectly from then on.

Thanks for the advice, I haven't - was a bit worried about breaking something. Will give it a gentle pull

Check the boot battery condition, will need to be at least 12.6v.
I had this same problem buying my R230 when I viewed the car. It was the battery.

Yes, oil is fine. Wondering if it's a bypass of the trunk lid drive cylinder as pump motor seems to be working overtime.

Just wanted to give an update incase anybody else has been suffering similar issues. After performing some tests for internal bypass ( none) I decided it must be a weak pump. Before biting the bullet and spending hundreds on a replacement, I drained the hydraulic fluid and filled it with new ( not expecting it to fix the issue) but to my utter amazement, roof now works. Thanks again to all who replied. Hopefully this may help somebody
