I have a ML270 and for some strange reason when i accelerate there a strange wind / sucking noise coming from the right hand side of the engine compartment if you were to be standing in front of it

the turbo still kicks in but the power is lower and when there isnt any noticable hoses gone its been in the garage which doesnt specialise in merc but he is now really puzzled

can any body help me in stopping this noise and increasing the power out put

best regards

First thing that springs to mind is a holed intercooler. This can be caused by stones when travelling at motorway speeds or by a careless mechanics tools when at parked speed! The intercooler looks like a radiator and is made of relatively thin aluminium to maximise thermal efficiency.

been speeking to a guy who seems to think with out looking at the car that it could be the control unit for the variable vain turbo, if this has gone wrong it will give a whoooshing niose on the right hand side of the engine does this sound right

also he's quoting a a cost price of over £500 do you know where I could get one cheaper if it is or any good banks that can be visited

ok so some days later I have taken the car into a mercedes specialist and they took the car down to the MBD which put it on the computer and it pointed out that my inlet manifold is siezed up which is why I have this whooshing noise coming from the left hand side of the engine

they have quoted me £400 for the manifold
£400.00 for labour and £50.00 for gaskets

does this sound right?????
