2012 E class estate purchased recently. This morning the dash stated, Vehicle rising. Please wait. It did so and cleared after about 20 seconds. The rear sites quite high on this car. Is this a sign of bad things to come?

Yes unfortunately just replaced the rear airbags on my 12 plate E350cdi with Arnott units the rubber bags become porous and start to deflate when the car is stood hence the message most mornings that the car is rising. Probably better to have the air lines checked first as I did with mine but sure enough it was the bags they cost £300 each side plus fitting I would get the job done sooner than later before the air pump burns out

Many thanks. No message this morning but I will get it checked. I found this site whilst browsing. Does anyone have any experience with them?

I fitted Aerosus rear shockers to my R Class. I had a problem with 1 of them a few months after fitting but they swapped it without problem, other than that, they were OK. They were half the price of MB

I fitted Arnott to my S211, no problems fitting or in use so far. @00slk has fitted them and reported a leak recently.

My o/s rear blew a hole through the bag. The rubber looked like it had been sanded down with 36 grit sand paper. The rubber just deteriorated within 2.5 years.

Can I take it you are referring to the Aerosus units? If so I will have to find the combination for her indoors purse to assist in buying Arnotts. Haven't had the car checked yet so hoping against hope it is something else. This is my first experience of this problem so I take it that even if all is well days after getting the dreaded message, it is only a matter of time before it will manifest itself again?

Yes, I bought Aerosus, but in reality, I think they are the same unit. The guarantee and receipt is Arnotts. Same with the instruction booklet.

S212 E350cdi prefaclift
It only spells imminent failure if it does this all the time. My S212 does it occasionally but it hasn't got any worse or more frequent in 2 years. If it aint broke...

Thanks for all your help. Car now sitting down on both sides, so new suspension bags and lines being replaced next week, The more I read about the air suspension problems I though it made sense to do this phase for now and see if this is the problem. If the valve needs replaced as well it will be done and that should hopefully be peace of mind for a few years.
Can I also enquire if there is a procedure for jacking the car up as new tyres all round being fitted next week?

The car jacks up as normal when the bags are done. As I sit in my lounge I can see one of my neighbours S211 E320cdi rear end is sat on the bump stops it happens to all the estates at some point. Wise decision to get it all checked out and the bags replaced. As soon as I realised my S212 was loosing air from the rear bags I had the job done before it got too bad and left me stranded

Could just be a broken linkage on the rear axle, damaged cable or faulty ride height sensor. I would carry out a few more checks before replacing the airbags but…. does the car rise when you start it ?

If the car rises and drives okay, I would find a good Mercedes independent and get a proper diagnosis before spending lots on bits.

When fully raised it deflates aftef 24 hours standing overnight, but I could only drive a few miles and it has dropped again. As the car is 2012 I have been advised to replace the lines and bags first as they are the chief culprits. I will know the answer this week when they are fitted. Main worry is driving to the garage which is 5 miles away.

Update.

New air lines and bags fitted and all is well. Only slight problem was with the air lines as I ordered two but didn't realise one was longer than the other.
Indy purchased another and a jointer. Even he couldn't believe that the jointer was £50!! Many thanks for all your help.
