Straight forward, factual, the MB forums are definitely a more enlightened place than a lot of others!
a much deeper front grill and the mirrors have more of a stalk

If you really want a bargain look at the 270, nice engine note and very good economy plus cheaper tax and other bits.

gotcha

So the one I linked could be either? Obviously seeing under the bonnet would help!
That is pre-facelift

I have owned my 2004 S211 E320 CDI since June last year, my first Mercedes and I would not hesitate to buy another S211. Mine is not the greatest example as I rescued it from being weighed in due to corrosion but has given me 6000 relatively trouble free and enjoyable miles. The interior is a really nice place to be with the Designo Nappa leather option. They handle well and feel very planted on the road, you will enjoy the first test drive.

If you can get the chassis number of a car you are interested in, do a check of the build sheet so you can see what options were ordered.

I am much the same with mine (W211 E220) I didn't exactly rescue it like yours but do still have some rust on the back arches but that's about it.
Like you I like mine but starting to get annoyed with running costs tax mainly but that's my issue.
In general though it's a good car that has probably got a lot of life left in it if looked after.
Just a bit underpowered in my opinion.

Second best car I've had is the pre-facelift W211 320cdi. In ten years ownership only slightly costly items have been SBC pump and a couple of air struts, otherwise boringly reliable. Terrific cars especially if you find one with lots of good specs.
