I'm questioning the actual eyesight of some drivers if they require these illegal lights! I have "night breakers" and they are fine at night.
Exactly. And using illegal lights doesn't help the situation - it just perpetuates it.

k) (though I've never seen fly tipped detritus on any road I've driven in a car).

not sure what part of the world u live in, I see it every day (and I mean a fresh drop not the same over and over...) with the lunatics in council now charging home owners to drop of a bit of old patio or an old fence panel… guest why a severe nuisance just turned in to a pandemic

its defies logic if fly tipping is out of control, that you make it more likely. all the detritus being dumped has to be cleared up at our expense so let them tip either free (still far cheaper than every borough 1000 times a day having separate specialised clear up operations going !) or for very low cost

e.g
car boot free,
boot and interior 5 quid
small van 10 quid
transit 10 quid etc.

or they just throw the asbestos in her maj's back garden for free

Fly tipping is usually dumped on very quiet B road that have low usage, as the people doing it do not want to be caught, they know everyone has a camera phone. Another popular location is sides of rivers and lakes. We have a spot about 5 miles away that is very popular with bathroom fitters and white goods.

Wow... the responses here are truly amazing....
Take that anyway you want.

I wrote to the state traffic authority suggesting the 100% increase in road deaths over the past 12 months on rural roads... was partly because traffic are being blinded by badly aligned lights, mostly the the illegal LED globes that render the cutoff inoperable... blinded drivers could not see the road properly... I have even seen factory HID badly aligned, even though they are supposed to be self levelling.

The reply was to contact the police, with registration numbers of offending cars.
I spoke to police, and they were not interested, as it meant inspecting every car on the road... to which they said that was the state traffic authorities job... a now circular conversation, with neither police or the regulator wanting to do a thing.

Me?
Im gobsmacked at how the conversation here has run... as Ive seen how a simple question raises many hackles and general nastiness, as well as a holier than thou attitude from various members.

My question about overheat and damage was not designed to create a furious foaming at the mouth arguement. It stemmed from the stupid day 20 years ago when I replaced a 55w globe in a Calibra with a 100, as the light output is abysmal.... the improvement was dramatic and brilliant, but the temperature melted the globe carrier to the extent I had to import another light unit.. I was interested if the LED installation / modifications would have a catastrophic result to the globe carrier on the W203, nothing more.

Ive since learnt that asking questions in this forum, is like throwing avgas on a lit blowtorch judging by the reactions here.

As for the W203, well.. the Phillips H7 globes have arrived, and as soon as the current globes fail, they will be installed. I have no desire to attack the light fittings with a dremel to mount LED or HID, only to have issues literally down the track on my daily 200km commute in the dark.

(Useful trivia;
Our state is 0.97 the size of the UK.
We have 45 million kangaroos that live near the roads, nationwide. Most of these are the size of a high school kid.
It would be nice to see them, so to avoid a collision. That was the prime reason for my question.)
