Where is the water coming from

Dear all, My E320 211 2003 saloon keeps getting rain water in the boot lid which
is leaking out from the lock when I open it.
I have noticed it for sometime as the carpet in the boot gets soaked but I have inspected where water can get into the Lid and cannot find anything obvious.
I know that the water comes from inside the lid as when I take the trim off a large mugful of water drains out.
Can anyone throw any light on this very annoying problem.

If its coming in through the boot lid it must be the third stop lamp [high level brake lamp]. Why dont you remove the boot lining then get in the boot with a torch and investigate while someone sprays the boot with water. Inspector clusoe would take this route!

There are some cars around with poor stamping on the boot, so as above the high lamp is not sealed. You can get some sealer and re fit the lamp
