I have recently bought my first Mercedes. Its lowish mileage, one owner with full dealer history, book all dealer stamped. My question...the garage which for quite a few years have looked after previous cars, are not mercedes specialists, but i'm comfortable with them. I know them and they me.

What are the financial consequences of having them service the car when i resell instead of an official dealer? Is it really that important for a dealer to have the car?

I'm trying to balance double the service costs each time from a dealer for the same job, against possible loss when i eventually resell the car. I understand the 'purists' will have a heart attack at this question, but whats your view??

Hi,

What age is your C240 Sport? If it was registered in late 1998 or later then your car will be covered by the mobilo life warranty. MB will only honour this warranty if the car has a full MB service history.

I doubt you'll lose that much in residual value in having the car serviced at a Non MB garage and as the car gets older that margin will decrease. However, there will be some aspects that your local friendly garage may not be able carry out, unless they have a Star diagnostic computer to hook up to your ECU (engine management system), in which case it maybe better to visit a private Mercedes specialist garage if not an MB stealership.
