hi everyone, just thought i would share my recent thoughts with you with reference to my brother purchasing an audi q5 with all the "bells & whistles" on it. yes a superb machine it had 5 people on board and all our trekking gear, when overtaking the v6 diesel roared into life and just shot passed slower vehicles on the a75 heading for stranraer. your sat high up and you don,t feel any bumps in the road, it was the best car journey i have ever experienced, and it was returning 37 mpg.
so you can see i would love one of these super cars, BUT, it cost the best part of £40k, an amount my brother would not miss, but a near clean out for my reserve finances. my merc is still running as it did when i bought it new in 1997, now 225,000 miles on the clock, it took the same crew to stranraer some months back and everyone was very comfortable, not quite the same overtaking ummpth as the Q5 but know slouch either. the mpg was about the same, 35 to 37 mpg. she is now worth about £2,000 if i was lucky enough to find a new owner that appreciated the cars CV.

The Q5 is a fantastic car. Unfortunately still a bit pricey though

You pays your money etc...remember how much you paid for your car in 1997? The Audi looks cheap by comparison.

I'd go for the SQ5, superb performance and looks and sounds great.

True' new cars are only new for a moment or two; then they become 'used' cars like
everyone else's.

I was the first one on here with a 230 SL500, but it did not take long before there were loads on here, I was the first with a 216 CL500, and again there are quite a few on here now, so as said the newness does not stay long.

My Y70R I have had from almost new, its worth just over £2k but no point in selling it as nothing wrong with it. My elder brother has more money than me and what he buys does not influence me at all, so keep what you have Herbie as the Audi will soon be worth that your 210 is worth, the way prices are dropping.

thankyou all for your comments, three to four years from now i can take the q5 from my brother for circa £16k, but as i feel now i still get a buz out of knowing i have cheap to run, worth nothing, other than to me,comfortable, powerfull, transport, with a great cv and respected by all my trekking/boating friends and family. it was nice to get all your opinions which in the main support my thoughts, and when you are getting older you like a few quid in the bank. i am also consciouse of being a "mercman", i still love sitting behind the wheel with the merc star up front and the big throbbing last for ever diesel engine smoothly pulling me along. you can see from my posts over the years that i have done all my own repairs, helped by all of you in this club, both mechanical and electronic etc, and all this creates a bonding with your big lump of superb engineering. seems like i am heading for the same situation that "roofless" is enjoying. herbiemercman.
