Right - got the valve to move and then saw there is a hose to the bottom left which is not on properly hence the coolant leak. I've had to top up coolant a couple of times in the last month so this could be be the reason. I can't access the clips to remove the pipe so have refitted everything back. Not having a great day - this plug has broken off the housing due to the brittle plastic. What is it and can I still drive the car?
I overtightened the top bolt and the flaming housing has cracked - it still feels secure. I may just get the damn thing replaced now.

I have the AA coming out to have a look at the coolant leak - I also have parts and garage cover and have the fault codes for the stuck egr.

My cay can only get better...

That’s the exhaust back pressure sensor , 24mm deep socket to remove it , watch the washer below it , don’t drop it .
I think it will put the car into limp mode if you drive it .
About £60-70 for it ?

Thanks - The AA chap has been and done a coolant pressure test which shows coolant leaking from the EGR valve housing all around at a fast rate. The actual hose is attached ok from what he can see. The question is - did I cause this by trying to remove this or was the leak already there, albeit at a slower rate.
Anyhow, I'll get a new EGR valve but I'll give it to the experts to do. Needs to be towed now. Looks like a visit to Alex crow for the fix and an extended B service.

Is this the one? Seems to have a different part number of A0091535028 when searching online but called fuel rail pressure sensor.

For sure.. . Many years ago whilst reporting my error to my boss he said
He who never made a mistake, never did anything!! Followed by, but if you do it again ur out!! The man is dead now, was very good to me and I will always remember that phrase.

Good for you having a go the OM642 isn’t the easiest engine to work on
Thank you all for the encouraging comments - if I could get to the coolant hose to remove it I would have another go. However, the AA may cover the cost of replacing the valve itself as it's leaking coolant and should be covered under my parts and garage cover. I'll find out tmrw. I know the MB valve is out of stock - are there aftermarket OEM alternatives?

If its leaking coolant from the EGR valve housing then that will be a new inlet manifold unfortunatly. I pulled mine completely apart to mr muscle the inlet manifolds, EGR cooler and EGR valve after going into limp home mode. Absolute PITA job. Annoyingly it did it again on my way into work this morning. Cleared the faults with Xentry and it was fine all the way home, will see how it performs tomorrow.

Really - I'm hoping it may be leaking due to the gasket being disturbed when twisting the egr to help free it, and not enough pressure to clamp the egr due to one of the screws cracking the mounting flange.

There's no gasket afaik. Any water cooling of the egr would be done externally not Internally. You don't have water entering any part of the egr . Only exhaust gases. My egr came out bone dry , I'd assume so did wightys ??

Think what you have is egr cooler failure ,and it's mixing into the exhaust system.

Defo have gasket between valve and body: No 23. The first thing Alex Crow mentioned was it could be the gasket in between which if moved can leak.
