Om642 metal breather cap replacement
Bought one of these the other day because a couple of people mentioned they are worth replacing . My car has 114k now so for sub £30 I treated her . I removed the 3 bolts for the pcv itself first and pushed it out the way then two bolts to remove on the new metal breather part and gently...forums.mercedesclub.org.uk
wait till you see whats under the scuttle panel
Good job buddy , it was a lovely sunny day here so I managed some tinkering as wellInspired by wighty, I removed my EGR valve and gave it a clean today. It was formidably resistant to coming out: the trick of loosening the bolts and then revving the engine failed miserably so I had to resort to some serious pounding with a wood chisel.
Anyway, it probably didn't need doing as it turned out. There was a thin coating of soot but superficial only - nothing that could be prised off. I cleaned it anyway with Mr. Muscle Oven Cleaner and a really handy brush which I got from B&Q.
Nice and sparkly(ish) now...
If and when you get it lifted a few mm , I used a woodworking chisel to get mine started , get some penetrating spray in there , twist and lift . It's the rubber o ring that seems to latch on . From what I can rememberResurrecting this thread - got a few errors pointing to a stuck closed EGR valve - original, never been out before in 189k. Wish me luck..
Well managed to get the valve to turn about 1/4 inch but cannot get it out. I used penetrating spray and loosened the bolts took for a drive. When the valve turned there was a steady stream of coolant squirting out - I was not expecting this as it wasn't mentioned anywhere - is this normal? There is no coolant hose connected to the valve as far as I can see. Also can't get it to turn back to screw back in!
I've left it now as it's pi55ing down - will have to fix tmrw as need the car for 12pm...
I have been but it's awkward trying to get the access to hit it in the right place. is the coolant leaking out going to be a problem? Thanks for the quick reply. You might need to use a light hammer on it , to get it out all the way . Dont let it boss you .
I've no idea what that could be , probably exhaust gases ??? When I popped mine out on the c250 it was a o ring that was bonded to the housing ,stopping it from coming out . I tapped mine round one way then the other , pulling up on it as I went , eventually it gave in.I have been but it's awkward trying to get the access to hit it in the right place. is the coolant leaking out going to be a problem? There was definitely exhaust gases coming out as well as what looked like water spraying out, which eventually stoppedI've no idea what that could be , probably exhaust gases ???
