Just called my insurance for get a quote for the new car. currently paying £396 per year. new car £576 per year. confused.com gave me a quote for £470 per year which I thought was not bad, the question is im 4 months away from renewal and would lose a years NCD. what's the likely hood that even with the extra 1 years NCB it will come under that. I had a rant to them about loyalty etc being with them for 4 years but didn't change a thing.
I’d pay the difference now to go from one to the other, then change at renewal

I have notice renewals nearly doubled from last year :( and whilst I’ve been able to reduce the premiums by shopping around not one is close

As they say it pays to shop around.

Had the renewal for the 129 the other day. - £387 so thought time to shop around again....

Five minutes later £208.
Rang the original company and they managed to get the renewal down to £322 - "Would you like to stay at the new price?"

Er... No.

I received my renewal from MB Ins services & despite there being no changes of any description whatsoever, they thought it would be a good idea for them only, to increase my premium from £885 last year, to £2400 this year!! After a couple of discounts, they got it down to £2085!! I sent an email back declining their very generous offer!! Got a phone call the following day asking me why. I informed them that there aren't enough words in the English dictionary that they could come up with that could ever justify an increase of over 270%. They didn't like my statement!!! Shopped around & went with Aviva at £901 !!!! It's still taking the p155, but not as bad as MB Ins !!!

One of mine is due for renewal around Xmas eve.

I want to know if these insurers are regulated and if they are, then its obviously back handers all round. Think I may set up an insurance company of my own at this rate, how hard can it be?

Quite a lot “self insure” police especially now due to their massive deductibles

I would recommend calling 'Peter James' Classic Car insurance in Oldbury, if you are looking around for quotes. Tel: 0121 506 6040. I have been with them for a long time and my premium is currently under £300 per year for 3 cars, including my SLK 230.

As a few will know, I have been keeping my eye on W213 E63s models over the last 6 months.
Naturally keen to find out what kind of insurance premium I'd be paying I regularly get a quote using a fictitious name/email but same details as I would use.
Back in March when I started looking I was quoted just under £400 for £52k valuation car.
In September, that had risen to £707. If it goes above £1k, I'll not buy one. There has to be a limit to car expenditure.
It's no wonder more and more owners chance avoiding ANPR cars and cameras with the rate its increasing.

Absolutely right, they can’t get away with blindly doing this as there will be people suffering hard from these sort of antics and you can’t blame the chancers as a result.

Cloned plates were an issue a long time ago and this mayhem will only add to that. Pretty good owning century plus old stuff as you never see another and minimal chances of being cloned.

Our work did this many years ago, you deposit a couple of million pounds as a surety, and effectively you self insure yourself against any claims. Many UK wide firms with fleets of thousands of vehicles do this.

Mce did similar with motorcycle insurance, call lines are now only to tell you to use the online facility. So I told them to stick it and found another company who has human beings able to have a conversation and get stuff done over the phone.

2 finger salute to all this digital crap as it’s far from being great and it never will be!

I got inflation and the "everyone is having to do it" response to which my response was "but this company is still 33% cheaper than your best price and they're in the same market as you".

Hi all
Appreciate any feedback on obtaining reasonable comprehensive insurance cover.
I am presently paying the RAC £1000 for a 2017 SL400 with 3 years NCD with 4000 miles a year usage.

Every year its the same.
Start by checking all the comparison websites.
If you find a premium less than your renewal, ring your current insurer and ask if they can match your quote.
Get a quote from Saga if you are over 50.
Finally, try a broker such as A-Plan ( now called Howden Insurance), , or Adrian Flux.

Impossible to comment on how much you should be paying as your postcode along with driving history are the things which affect the premium most.
Getting your NCD up to the maximum would help a lot. Depending on the insurer, that could be anywhere between 9 and 20 years for maximum NCD.
