Malcolm,
do you fancy having a go at transfering the chip from a plastic 3 button key to the innards of a chrome 3 button, thereby giving me a shiny new 3 button chrome that works?
I have both keys and information as to how it should be done, I have tried to find someone local to do it but no-one seems interested.
I didn't want to PM you as I thought it a little rude to do so.
Colin.

I am sorry, that is too expensive for me to play with as I would have to do it by hand. Though I am a little out of touch now, there are some electronic firms who have the jigs for doing this.

For anyone wanting to have a go by hand.

You clip the legs on the chip that is not needed on the chrome key, lift the chip then just with a de solder gun, suck up the ends of the legs..

To get the good chip off the old board, you just go round the chip with a soldering iron, lifting the legs as you go and remove it. then straighten the legs.

You need some glue to hold the chip in the correct place, with all legs aligned. then flood the legs with solder down both sides. And last you just use a desoldering gun to remove the solder from between the legs and job done

Then sorry to say that the EIS ignition switch is failing, the only other thing is to press any button on the fob when it is in,but I do not think that it will help

The switch part will have to be replaced, but the new one would be ordered so that you keep your existing keys

any idea of the price of the switch, i would like to know could the whole thing be replaced with a standard ignition or is a signal sent to the brain therefor only a mb ignition works, like could it be set up to start on a flick switch, it might sound daft but hey if it would work thats no more key probs

If you tried to mount a switch some where else the ignition key would have to be left in all the time, and as soon as you flicked the switch you would be back to square one waiting for the EIS to wake up and recognize the key.

yes, thats if you were leaving the org ign in, but if i took it out and you just had the wiring and wired it to say, for instance a ford, volvo, or whatever ign, you would be using a standard car key, would it solve the prob, or would it cont because it is linked to a central brain.

Not that simple as anyone could steal the cars so easily, this is a complicated device take a look at the pics of the switch.

They are not cheap, but what is on cars these days, the parts on my car are all priced in £k so the last 5 parts that I have bought came out at £4k, and I only buy the parts to save my children from paying inheritance tax:(:(
