It will only show an arrow if you are going slowly enough and the space is big enough to safely park. It's worth checking that it's not a function in the menue that can be turned on/off.

A lot of the descriptions sound very different from mine. Are there several versions of the interface?

On mine: Slow down and the P comes on and use the indicators to drop the hint about which side you want it to park. Then make sure you drive past the space so it can measure it and the arrow appears. Select reverse and you get the question screen. Select yes and GFI. It takes a few wiggles to get into a narrow space but it's remarkably good at it. If I don't use the indicators it still works most of the time.
