I assume mine would be the system in the 2nd video then? I.e. the driver provides all steering input, it's not automatic like on the first vid. I am only a C-Class after all.

The 2012 owner's handbook does describe the second, Parking Guidance, option.

Thanks, I assumed as much. Really should have a flick through the manual again sometime, just not been in a position to do much driving of late.

And to think the new ford Focus parks itself and not a £3k extra.

Well, having owned a high-spec Ford Focus for a while, I'd not trust any of its tech to be working in 5 years, nor be overly reliable before that time. My Focus drove well, but was oh so very delicate and there was always one niggle or another. Many of the bits on it seemed cheap, and almost literally designed to last the three year warranty period and no longer. I still loved it though.

But yeah, Ford seem to offer great value on the face of it, plus they really seem to follow MB (and likely others) when it comes to gadgets.

The blue P is for parking guidance I have it and the code is 230.

I think we are getting our wires crossed boss you are perhaps talking about Active park assist I am talking about the more basic park assist when the car tells you which way to turn the steering wheel it does not do it for you my car is a 2009 active park assist was not available then just park assist. I understood parktronic to be my lights on the dash etc Correct me if I am talking rubbish ;)

Parking guidance is where it tells you what to do and you have to steer it.

I think we both have the manual system 350coupe, though having it steer for me would be sorta cool...until the inevitable day it crashed... :)

I have the parking guidance on my 2007 CL500, the new blue version late 2010 has the full works that steers the car into a gap.

I think I'm right in saying that such features gradually find their way down the model range after being first introduced on the high-end cars. For example, I'd not expect to see a C-Class from 2007 have this feature, whereas your high-end CL did.

You know actually checking the manual is cheating right? ;)

My SL has Active Park Assist and very cool it is as well. I use it to amuse my little nieces or elderly mother but that's about all. It's a 'Magic Car' and parks itself don'tchaknow.

i do the same thing with my kids- sometimes when I (rarely) drop my eldest (5YO) at scholl I hear her telling her mates about Daddy's magic car!

Scoob.

You're right Scoob.

It's truly frightening all this, isn't it?

Clearly some people think the manual is something put in the glove box by the manufacturer to fill the otherwise empty void.
