My MX5 mk4 and the wife's Cooper S both had speed warnings. You could set a maximum speed, when you hit that a warning sign appeared and a women told you off. They also audible warned you of speed cameras. I can't find anything in the manual and the main dealer isn't being very helpful, in fact the guy I spoke with on the phone didn't seem to have a clue what I was on about.

Anyway, any help appreciated....Oh should have said, car is a SLC 250d AMG Line.

You'll have a speed limiter which won't allow you to cross a certain speed but no warning.
Push the end of the cruise stalk and a yellow light will come on. Move the cruise stalk up and down to set . Push the stalk away to disengage, pull towards to re-engage. Push the end of the stalk to return to cruise control.

If you need to over ride it in a hurry simply mash the accelerator to the floor and the limiter disengages as the car changes down (kickdown) and launches into the distance (and hopefully not the scenery).

Must admit I’ve never had a problem with over speeding as i have a great big dial gauge in front of my face that shows how fast I’m going ;)

Thanks but I know about the limiter, cruise control is something I never use.....don't like it.

Yes, I too have a dial but I much prefer using the digital readout. The audible warning re speed cameras is a very useful feature. There is a visual warning on the sat nav, the tiny speed figures turn red if you can see them. On the Mazda for instance you can set any speed and when that is reached the digital speedo changes colour and if you don't notice that a young lady whispers in your ear. The Mini was the same, I would've thought Mercedes would have supplied a similar sort off thing.

I find speed awareness aids extremely helpful in our ever more and more controlled motoring world.

You might have not experienced problems re overspeeding, but 2,500,000 drivers in the UK did last year, me included. :(

.
My new-ish aftermarket head unit has this feature - "you're over the speed limit" announcement ...
Took me a few minutes, to find how to disable it. Permanently :)

Try to use the cruise control as often as possible. It’s a really effective way of controlling your speed. You’ll quickly realise how erratic other drivers are who cannot maintain a constant speed.

Similarly, in traffic the speed limiter is really helpful. You don’t need to be told to slow down, the car just does it for you.

How old is your car?

Does it have Traffic Sign Assist? Appears standard on current configurator, although no diesel variants show.

Does it have Speed Limit Assist? If switched on that will limit the car to the posted speed limit the car sees.

Do you have Comand? There is a function in there to display the speed limit in the Comand screen. There may be an option to display the speed limit in the centre of the dash in place of the digital speedo reading.

Post your Vin in the Vin Decoder thread and some helpful bod will put up the full build of your car and we can assist further.

Or you could just drive with due care and attention and keep to the speed limit:shock::shock: I might be getting accustomed to the cosseted feeling driving a Benz, but I no longer speed. For a few second in most cases the time seldom is made up. I just switch the systems on and let the car do the thinking.

Hi, it's a 2017 SLC 250d AMG Line vin WDD1724042F145331.

I take your comments re speed. However after 57 years of driving three years ago I got my first ticket 36 in a 30 zone, since then I have become paranoid, silly I know but that's the truth.

Thats why I use the limiter. Set it to 33 then every time I pass a 30 sign enable it then disable on the other side. If on a long motorway or A road stretch just set the cruise (unless its busy then use the limiter again). Works for me.

That’s why the car has a speed limiter.

^ Look on the positive side and think your next ticket might not arrive for another 57 years.
That should make you ..........quite old.

I'm surprised you weren't offered a speed awareness course for being only 6mph over the limit, especially considering you had a clean licence.

we have control of our speed, one right foot and road signs; bought a dash cam, now! that really makes you think. if i were to hand in the camera chip, smokey would have field day; Like most other motors i have all the gubbins, c/c, radio, phone, i do not use them. that is my opinion for what it is worth, ardaelius.

Oh hang about, maybe light is beginning to emerge.

This limiter, unlike the cruise control does it merely set the maximum speed of the car. for instance set it to 76 mph for motorways and drive along knowing that you are within the speed range 0- 76mph, ( 0 being the M25 :))

If so that would be ideal.

Problem with the limiter is that on the last two or three mph before the limit, the accelerator becomes very wooly and you find yourself pressing harder with no effect. Apart from that it's very good for speed limited areas where you can set it 30 and still do 22 with the traffic.

But it does seem like the answer. Thanks to all who contributed.

Well you did break the law...
One can argue that an unjust law is not enforceable... And indeed it can be considered your moral obligation to break an unjust law - which can be defined as one which the majority do not obey ..... We can move onto the dispute about majoritarianism or what form of democracy is best too.....
