The "Industry" like to spread a myth that only they are good enough to do the work and anyone else is a law breaking terrorist.
Clearly many people work to very high standards on all manner of things it would be ludicrous to legislate that they couldn't fix their own.
Stopping incompetent people working on other peoples houses is good..

On a similar theme, but getting back to car stuff, for years the insurance industry have been trying to stop folk working on their own cars. Their idea was that you had to produce the stamped service history book before you would get insurance to prove the car had been correctly maintained. That idea fell on stony ground (so far).

The other amusing thing is where dealers say that their cars should only be worked on by their highly trained specialists. Having been 'in the trade' I knew that my car mechanic pals and acquaintances simply went where the pay was best or their other pals happened to be working, or the work was easier or whatever. They very rarely received any special training of any kind. They just picked up the 'wrinkles' of any particular marque from their colleagues as they went along.
