.... too many cars!
This is quite an interesting thread, the Top 10 Mercedes-Benz models of all time ...... is this the 10 best Mercedes-Benz models of all time or just what we would like to own?

I have seen many times on this forum posters lamenting the pre 1995 days when 'Mercedes Benz cars were proper Mercedes Benzs' and, as Im an old fart, I tend to agree. So in this 'Top 10 Mercedes-Benz models of all time' would that mean that anything built after 1995 is not eligible? The answer to this question, of course, will depend on the age profile of those who bothered to read the thread. We all know that if we were asked to give a Top 10 band list, the Beatles, The Stones and The Who should be in it but if you ask a bunch of 16 year old girls that question, 'The Who' would be a question and not a band.
With this in mind I would hope to see the W123, W124 and W126 in the top 5 at least and if you need to question that selection then you are missing the whole point of true Mercedes Benz motoring ......

..... maybe I should get my coat!

There is no 'whole point' of mercedes motoring, no rights or wrongs, just opinions. I've a W124 and owned a W115, there is nothing sacred about them, they rust and fail like all cars. So my vote is for a W211 E55, understated Q-car with outrageous performance and decent styling. Add a SLR McClaren, and any CLS, a true iconic design that has opened up a new class of cars.

129 does it for me

And for me Ian. Mine is now 17 years old, just run in, almost fault free, yet would not fetch a huge price at sale. These cars have to be the best value of car per pound on the market at present, yet properly cared for they have a long and useful life ahead.

Hopefully the prices will bottom out at some stage (although they can't get much lower) and people will begin to realize what excellent motor cars they really are.

the coupe w140's are nice looking cars but the saloon is almost as ugly as a CLS;)

I'd give you that, however body work on the 210's is a shame, but its a nicer car than a 124, more spacious, a lot safer in a ding. Its a more spacious and more comfortable car than a 211 (seats arent the best in 211 cars)

Safer in an accident, you sure, NCAP was designed around the crash tests that D-B devised for the w124. And unlike the w210 its structure won't have rusted away:lol:

For me, their has to be..

W116 - Purely because, they are know all over Africa and the Middle East, being battered and still not dieing!!! They are scattered around some of the toughest climates and are still going strong! FANTASTIC MACHINES!!!

190 Evolution 2 - Because it looks crazy, it is crazy!! Its one of the best classic Mercs ever made, and was a real contender against the likes of those BAST*RD BEEMER DRIVERS (of those times) who thought their E30 M3's could out-do anything!
This was, and still is the bad-boy!!

To be honest guys based purly on looks alone, until the style and the shapes changed around the 2000 mark, they never did anything for me. I know you may think its sacrilege but nearly all the models before that, to me, were just old mens cars (Arther Daley) that looked old, even when new. Including the outrageous and big engined.
Sorry...

To me the mk 3 cortina even today is a better styled looking classic car than some of those big SL's which frankly might as well have been granadas.

The ONLY really old model based purley on looks HAS to be the 130SL. And I swear that the looks of the new SLK is based on it.

And If (based on styling and looks alone) I have to choose one single model, of every MB model EVER made, it has to be the new SLK. Too me its luxury, classic, and even has some mean US 50's mustang in the mix.
