The biggest bill is yet to come! It's having all the rust issues sorted at the moment - I am car-less for 2 weeks.

Anyway, just thinking of outstanding issues which need attention in the near future

1. Limp home mode needs diagnosing
2. Aircon hisses through the vents but no warning light. Not very cold so needs a re-gas
3. squeaky rear brakes when it's warm at low speed - in hand but need to replace them
4. Steering wheel needs to be centred.
5. SRS light on - probably the usual cause but I have removed the bulb for now
6. Dash pixel repair didn't go to plan - need to have another go (lost count of times)
7. Headlining is grubby, needs a clean. Not urgent
8. Small tear in the leather of the front passenger seat. Not urgent
9. Alloy wheels need renovating. I have bought some replica AMG 18" wheels but I'm not sure if I like them in hindsight. Plus I think it will need lowering a touch to look ok. Not essential
10. COMAND 2 I really do not like. Alpine unit to replace it when I eventually win an auction (missed 4 units now). Not essential
11. Bound to be something else I can't remember right now

Thanks Pete for your reply. Of course I do understand that any car will cost in maintenance terms, but I was a bit surprised to read the extent of the cost of the one in this thread. As soon as we bought my wife's present car, a Jeep Cherokee, we had to have a new rear exhaust, it was around £500, and that is simply for a consumable item...
We do not have the money to afford a newer version of the car we like at this point in time, I will not go into the reasons as they are boring, and want to keep our auto spending to a minimum if possible, so I am really interested to read other peoples experiences so that it may help us to make a good decision once the Jeep gets sold.
Thanks again

Keith

Toby,
Silly glow plugs been gone on mine for years, I think only one still works. But still no starting problems in the winter,

The alloys are looking a bit tatty. Have you swapped the spare tyre for an almost worn out one?

The rust on mine is confined to wheel arches, bottom edge of front wing, and just on the rear wheel arch sill where the rear door closes. My tip for rust fixing is rub back firmly with wet and dry to mostly shiny steel and then a couple of thick coats of hand brushed hammerite smooth. better that the original paint and not too apparent from a distance!!!!

I remind myself that the old W210 hasn't got SBS to go wrong.

Was the MAF the cause of the limp mode?

how long did the old MAF last?

Mine is intermittant but was told the MAF was ok (on STAR). Has been changed 2 years ago and from reading on here some only last that long!

It was short-lived, it's back in to limp-home mode again! Needs to go back on STAR. It's ok for a few miles after starting then it goes back in to it.

Exactly what mine does. I'm going to get mine on STAR this week or next, hopefully it's a cheap fix (unlikely)

I seem to remember mine still did that after a MAF change and it was a sticky EGR.
Alex Crow closed it tight for me then did the resistor mod to stop it working and all was well. I THINK that's right...;)

Alex fitted the shunt for me too (earlier post in this thread). I have no doubt the cause will be found in due course.

127,123 miles: MoT time! Failed on NSR tyre below tread limit

Therefore, quick trip to Tyre Barn in Newbury for 2 x Michelin Primacy 3 £258.00

Also Michelin have an offer on so I will receive a £40 fuel card voucher to soften the blow.

Re-test and pass £38.00

Glad to see the back of those Uniroyals. Noisiest tyres I have ever had.
