Nope it was purchased from Halfords, I just liked the idea of refurbing the original as a spare.
Was there a surcharge on the one you bought? The surcharge is usually refunded when you return the old one, often called "service exchange".

Halfords usually get their parts from a local motor factors and parts such as starter motors, alternators and brake calipers are often on an exchange basis. I just looked at Halfords Lanark and they show two starters, Bosch and Lucas and the Lucas looks ridiculously cheap at £51 and oddly no mention of exchange.

best place for tools is a car boot market.
Machine mart is overpriced and poor quality.

I got ramps (4 quid) old school heavy as a ship.
No end of hand tools for pennies.

Building a tool collection is key. slow ans steady its a marathon not a race your project. Be wise with your dosh

This.

Once you have the basics buy as you need. That way you get what you need and not a pile of nice expensive ornaments.

Good afternoon troops,
Been a while business and personal life has been hectic, anyhoo a wee update:

1,. Car now garaged never to be wet again.
2. Spray people want 2 new wings 2 quarter wings rear, boot and a door panel ( This is due to my instruction that I don't want rust rubbed down I want it replaced) £2500 minimum £3500 max????? thoughts?
3. Underneath is giving me the heebyjeebies a wee bit!
4. there are 2 rods reaching out to jacking point corroded and one broken needs replaced ( Looks like a great big V, what are they called?)
5. Upholsterer recommends bringing the seats back to life without replacement is very achievable, does not want to replace the leather.
6.Someone mentioned special sockets or spanners for Mercedes? I cannot find them, but they look like hexagons?
7.In regards to underneath, what sort of treatment should I do was thinking up on outside lift
Spray clean, it is laden with dirt, then some sort of rust treatment with a wax oil finish? Am I talking a load of rubbish?

All sarcasm gratefully received, however educational replies are even better!

Kind regards.

More modern Mercedes Benz use Torx sockets, rather than conventional hexagon headed bolts. Rather than describe Torx look them up. You may well have hex headed bolts, that’s what’s in most socket sets.

The socket sizes are often E10, E12 etc relating to 10mm, 12mm etc.

I've found with a decent 6-sides socket that has the corners rounded out (by design) a lot of these fit over the torx head bolts. But I don't think there are many torx head bolts. Most of the smaller ones you can just buy a rail of e.g. 3/8" ratchet heads.

I bought this one
