Looks like service B has been exceeded by 730 days.

Are the battery leads corroded ? What is the voltage showing at the battery ?

At least the dash lights up.

There is also a reset for the window by pushing or lifting the switch for 15 or 20 seconds, when ope or closed. Mebees some one will confirm.

You could identify the starter relay, and replace that. If you're lucky that may be all it is. If lucky another relay on the fuse board may be identical to exchange, it would be nice to prove that works for whatever it serves first though.

Thank you so much, your idea worked perfectly, holding it up for 15 seconds reset it, the car is back to being waterproof. Now what are you going to do about the rest of it?

I do not have a voltmeter however the battery is brand-new & fully charged, so I suspect connections, solenoid & starter motor, is that the right order?

I'll make a start on the front wings.
It doesn't need to run to look good.

And it doesn't have to run to sound good either.

I wouldn't be tempted to start playing "parts darts" until I have done some diagnosis. Could be time to invest in a multimeter.

The good news is a cheap £10 Chinese one is just as accurate as a £300 Fluke.

I liked this one for it's large backlit display

I used to keep it on the yacht when we still had it.
But there are much cheaper that will serve well enough.

Just a shot in the dark from a previous fault I had. My starter got well and truly stuck. It would blow the starter fuse when trying to start. No other faults. Couldn't here anything. If you don't have a diagnostics scanner or multi meter, a quick free check could be to go through the fuse box (or boxes, depending on how many this car has) checking for blown fuses?

Try shifting to Neutral and see if the starter motor turns, might be a selector inhibitor switch problem. I have lost count of the number of people I know that have dived in and replaced the starter motor then the battery only to find a faulty ignition switch or relay.

Good Lord, the highs and lows in this just began journey are fantastic from yesterday & the disappointment of nothing happening with the new battery to today, Good old-fashioned chap on the starter motor and hey presto, we have a runner! Loads of tools arrived today, everything is happening too quick! Garage still not ready but at least I have a hap to keep it dry. Can any of the mechanics out there hear anything concerning? There was plenty of misfiring. I have now ordered a set of plugs and a starter motor. Anything else I should order? Huge shout out to snake charmer, thank you so much, I did not understand half of what you said but 100% understood the sentiment. What an incredible forum!

So the new starter arrives on Wednesday. What do you do with the old one? Is it straight in the bin or can it be refurbished, if so how?

Was there a surcharge on the one you bought? The surcharge is usually refunded when you return the old one, often called "service exchange".
