Are the battery leads corroded ? What is the voltage showing at the battery ?

Clean out those scuttle drains soonest, then take the cover off the bottom of the wiper arm and lube it liberally.
Was there a surcharge on the one you bought? The surcharge is usually refunded when you return the old one, often called "service exchange".So the new starter arrives on Wednesday. What do you do with the old one? Is it straight in the bin or can it be refurbished, if so how?
