Waa waa waa wa! Well as you all predicted nothing happened, new battery installed, could hear a whine, assumed it was a fuel pump, turned key and got the above, what do they mean? furthermore drivers side window goes down 2 inches, garage not ready yet, I can put it the window up but it drops again. Proving myself to be genius by my bold opening prediction, I was right! So is it clean up all connections, inspect solenoid, give starter motor a dunt with a hammer? How do I get the ****** window up as we have our usual liquid sunshine at the moment.

Cycle window down up, maybe twice. That should reset the controller.

starter solenoid,
starter?

If you're brave enough you could short the heavy terminals at the starter solenoid, that would prove / eliminate that.
*beware of rotating bits that want your hands to eat*

Cycled the window up and down, no joy, still open in liquid sunshine! Bit wary of shorting in that manner, will take time to consider, I just want it running so I can get it to the MOT station.
