David,

you're in the know about these HUD thingies.

Is it possible to get something that can sit on the dash, project an image and link to an OBD2 bluetooth dongle without requiring a smartphone as a link or bridge, do you know?
Not aware of this exact functionality as such (i.e. link to a third party ELM327), but there are plenty of HUDs that would plug into OBD port (as their only source of power and info) and supply all the same data (or, most of it), you get from a bluetooth dongle.

I'll have a look and get back to you on specific models, etc.

Not to my Merc as such, but I put together this, and will fit over the weekend:

As I already have the Bluetooth OBD dongle, I’m reckoning that routing a power lead to the dash top surface would be easier than a full thickness OBD cable harness. So, I’m looking for a HUD unit that can just link to the OBD Bluetooth signal. Does that make sense?

Yes, I understand, but it would probably be easier to add an OBD splitter, and plug HUD directly in - the cables the OBD type comes in with, are either flat or very thin, so won't be a problem routing it.

Incidentally, I have a brand new, 3-way splitter, I bought with a view to use either it, or internal custom harness, and won't need it now - it's a high quality, shielded and fully pinned jobbie:

Used to have a C63...
A friend has a M140i, loves it and not bad to fun but his is on lease and includes maintenance, it is rapid

It is quick, lovely power train (tested the 8-sp ZF). But nearly twice as much to insure as the C63 was! Clearly too many 17yr old YouTubers putting them through hedges!

Years ago (2000) I had an Audi S3 which was effectively a Golf in a very fancy frock.
It was meh....good but not great and quite dull if capable.
I'd be very interested to try the I30n. It's refreshingly different, good warranty support, pretty good reviews and looks to be pretty good value. Best of all it's NAG....

CarAdvice (Aussie site) have done an interesting 3-part hot hatch review on YouTube, good mix of cars tested by a number of reviewers.

Pretty much my response JB. "Oh, it's the value of the car sir..." - exactly the same as the 63 was insured for.

"Oh, it's also because it's high performance sir..." - you're currently insuring my C63... which has over 140bhp more! Next excuse for your lottery number quoting system please? Gibbons.

Been busy cleaning the 190 up, originally for tomorrow but the forecast is bleak so it'll have to stay in the garage if there's any rain about. Always next weekend I suppose.

It needs a run as it's barely turned a wheel since it's MOT last month. :(

Lucky you . Washed mine yesterday with a filtered water rinse and a blow dry! Looked OK
Only to find today the Pigeons have blitzed ( could have used a shovel to remove it :(:() the entire left side, and 1/2 of the roof and half the boot!
Nice one boys!

Oh well call me vindictive but just got the air tank topped up to 300 Bar ... time to re commission Besty! :)

Bought her 4 toys!

1. A £157 discounted to £97 Paint Thickness Meter ... 4th one arrived with no packing but fundamentally undamaged! The previous 3 were smashed to bits by the couriers. Of course no packaging! Despite assuring me they would package the replacements perfectly!
I would call this sensitive kit measuring to 3/1000 of a mm!
Ironically Amazon insisted I put them in a box ... because if they got damaged on the return, they would not give a refund. WTF! Double standards
2. A nice Makita £286 discounted to £232 DA polisher ... again unboxed ! But amazingly the retail box looked intact :)
3. A bottle of 3M Ultrafina Se Polish £36 ..... would you guess in a super big box with 6 protective Airbags!
4. 2 Foam 3M Polishing pads ... £10 each ... pretty indestructible but yes you guessed it in a nice big box with 4 airbags ... well you wouldnt want a block of foam bouncing around would you :):)

Amazon’s Logisitc Director must be a total retard!

Is it me, or are the people of this dear and fair Land getting progressively thicker year by year!

Fixed the Aircon. The temperature sensor on the front of the engine (m119) was failed (short circuit) . Fitted new sensor and job done!

For future reference for anyone who has issues with the tempmatic air conditioning there is a small LCD display on top of the control unit which is visible when pulled out about 2-2 inches.
The display shows temperature values of the sensors and setting of the temperature dials. Pressing the Rest button cycles through each one. On mine sensor 12 showed CL and when unplugged showed OP E. Fitting the new sensor made it behave as normal.
The numbering of the sensors starts at 02 and increments in steps if 2.

02 = in car temperature sensor
04 = exterior temperature sensor
06 = evaporator temperature sensor
08 = left heater core temperature sensor
10 = right heater core temperature sensor
12 = engine temperature sensor
14 = left temperature selector wheel setting
16 = right temperature selector wheel setting
18 = vehicle speed
20 = roof open/closed
22 = voltage

Yes they are. I’m sure it’s plottable.

Nice haul! Let me know how you get on with that DA please...

Well, today saw the replacement of the S211’s RHS headlamp ballast.

This requires:

Wheel off.
Wheelhouse (wheelarch liner) pulled away at the front.
This exposes the underside of the headlamp unit.
Ballast is fitted underneath and secured with four small Torx screws.

The torx screws were all “blind” as they’re behind mounting arms or platform metal.

Pig of a job, total time 1.5hrs just due to messing around trying to get hands into spaces designed for rat claws!!!

Will do Craig
It had excellent reviews saying it was the smoothest in use, and an especially good soft start, i.e. on start up hardly noticeable , reviews said it was considerably better than some Rupes and Flex polishers at £400- £700.
It does have a selectable Forced rotation if you want it ... apparently that makes it a tad more agressive.

It does sound a little “angle grinderish at full speed” but then I think they are all a bit noisy. My Makita angle grinders have a similar sound ... apparently due to very heavy duty carbon steel bearings.
They 2, have all been faultless .

Only slight negative on opening the package. Either The plug ( no plug guard) or the allen key attached by a clip thing to the cable, has virtually punched through the metal foil dust guard!)

This is due to Makita just putting it in a box .. no seperators to stop cable, plug etc hitting the machine.

I’ll ring Makita on Monday and see if they can send me one as its a plug in Filter designed to be removed and periodically cleaned.

As at least this one hadnt suffered any massive drops or dents on the box.

Got to say a Tad disappointed!

Sadly it doesnt come with a Makita tool case that is always useful, but sure I can get a Makita case that fits

Anyway £232 was imo a great price when one compares Flex costs.
