It looks like I might be able to hammer it in, but it'll be nightmare handling the breather pipe, and the [thick] positive wires out of the box (the whole thing is under the driver's footwell floor).

I'll go for the type 96 instead - 278mm will fit fine, and still more juice than recommended type 27

Not sure if this helps but I fitted a AGM battery to my 168, part number A004 541 8601. 70 Ah 760A. Cold cranking is a big improvement over the old 62Ah battery!

Thanks, pretty sure an AGM battery would be out of my budget ha ha :)
Just ordered a type 96 VARTA Silver - 77Ah 780A, for £84 delivered. It will be a big improvement too, I'm sure.

Managed to get some wax on the white one yesterday. It's had three good coats now over the last couple of weeks which it's going to need as it's still having to live outside till I can get some form of cover built for it.

I used THIS STUFF which, whilst looking a bit weird (and smelling worse) is an excellent, albeit synthetic, product and a hit over in Japan and over here with the JDM boys. Made by Fusso apparently who certainly know what they're doing.

Interesting!
My Kamikaze stuff has lasted barely 6 months so I'm going back to Swissvax (I say 'I' in the broadest sense!!)

I'd never tried this before though it was recommended to me so I thought I'd give it a go. Previously used Blackfire Midnight Sun which, whilst being a good Carnauba Wax, is not the cheapest. As I was running out of it I thought I'd save what I had left for the 190 and try this new stuff on the E Class. It is impressive though smells a bit like a petroleum based product.

Tried to get some shiny shots but the sun's not playing out today round here, so the one in the garage looks better: -

Hoovered out the weeks takings of crumbs, dirt and various other lovelies that seem to accumulate in the foot wells
Then tackled this issue.....
Boy I hate aftermarket mods of inferior quality :alien:

Now I know why the side light has been flashing like a police car for the last few months :geek:

Who did these Alex?

Chap recommended to me by some scooby owning friends, Gaz Watson. His usual fodder is the brembo gear for imprezas etc but he said he enjoyed the merc Brembos.

Full refurb consisted of all new seals, stripping and powder coating and decals.

His facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/asif.ambothard

This is what they looked like before the refurb, one new old stock and one pre-used caliper. Not in bad condition really.

Highly recommend Gaz's work, he's a top bloke as well.

One small concern I currently have is that I bought these calipers for the refurb and then I've had a closer look at the calipers currently on my CL500 (MY2000) and they are slightly different. These might be off 2003 onwards and I don't know if they are backwards compatible??

If they don't fit I'll be gutted

The majority of it caused by 1 x 5yo girl and 1 x 1yo girl. Oh and one full vacuum cleaner's worth of assorted crumbs/ twigs/ guff too.

I have yet to begin the leather deep clean required..........
