Another flipping wobbly box on the roads slowing everyone down.....;)

One of the beauties of the Distance Pilot system on my tug is that I set the limit at the permitted speed, which by law is lower than when travelling without the executive apartment on the back. As we travel in the permitted lanes on the motorway there are seldom vehicles going past us, and when they do after passing that slow moving caravan as you believe, they pull in and go slower than the permitted speed limit for our lower limit unit. It gets worse when the slower less powerful cars reach a til, or a twisty bit of road where I put on my sunnies to reduce the glare of their brake lights constantly on as they don't know how to drive.

I also love losing the race to stop game, where those with little willies hare off having overtaken the slow moving caravan fail to look ahead at the stopped traffic and brake suddenly

My fave is the country lanes of cornwall where the ill informed solos vehicle motorists expect the caravan to be holding them up, when in fact they are left for dust. These MB V6 diesels do a great job of moving the mass. High up driving position to see over the hedges etc

Don't you just lurve stereotypical associations?

Ah but that's you Keith.... Not Mr and Mrs Average towing their less than executive apartment with their 10 year old Citroen Picasso (which lets face it isn't the most sprightly vehicle before coupling it to an anchor!).

We’re just lacking the high driving position, but right now I can’t afford a caravan and to replace the family car to an ML...

I want to find a graphics personage that can produce a 'Chad' character looking over the wall with a speech bubble that says 'Wot Q?' to go large on the rear of my caravan :rolleyes:

So far today I have de-snowed my Merc so that all the lights are visible, my windows are clear, there are no slabs of snow to blow off into the path of unsuspecting road users. All done whilst my first coffee of the day was cooling sufficiently to drink. As per usual in these conditions the 'executive' company car drivers were spinning wheels on the road outside my house turning the little bit of overnight snow to ice. So I walked the the nearest grit bin that had grit in it after the weekends raids by those same drivers to do their drives further up the road; and sprinkled it on the newly formed ice, in order to take MrsP to work.

Turned the knob in the centre panel to 'slippery' and drove MrsP to work along snowy lanes to get her to work on time. The firm she works for does de-icing for aircraft at the various airports around the country, so the snow is very welcome.

I lurve observing the poor driving of people in this weather. The peep holes in the front windscreen, the roof load of snow blowing over the vehicles behind, the hard braking and sliding into kerbs on roundabouts, the rear end losing it on acceleration from a junction, the drifting snow on the brow of hills and farm field gates where there are no hedges that comes as surprise to the commuters who drive that road daily.

Got to do the collect run later :geek:

New cam sensor for the SL, oiled roof mechanism and Gummied the rubbers (or at least my garage did!).

Do you know what was used on the roof mechanism? I have been using silicon spray rather than "oil" but would be interested to know if there is anything better.

Or the little to55er in the MX5 that thought it was fine to pass on the inside of the roundabout and cut me up to get in front to go off at the same exit I did then put his finger up at me when I flashed at him.

Funny thing is stupid little to55er pulled off the road into his work place (Base Performance Simulations) so I duly followed to have 'a word'. He then gets all abusive but took a back step when I clenched a fist after a smart arsed reference to my mother (who was killed by a driver who thought they could do as they pleased on the roads - I should point out I'm a touch over 6ft tall and built like an All Black forward)... Funny thing is I had been considering a gift session for a mate of mine for his 50th there (they do high quality circuit simulations) but given the type of employee they have they can forget that!

Resistance was futile. He's been assimilated. :)
Ok so I asked the consultant that very question- nowt to do with mobile networks! No landline required! GPS network maybe? I’m on the case trying to find out (I have some spare time at the mo!).
Aviva have been in touch and are sending an engineer to assess the E350 at the pound.
Update to follow...

I find it instructive to send a letter to the Operations Director about the driving standards of his or her staff, specifically by vehicle type/ colour/ registration number with time/ location/ behaviour. Even better to cc it to the HR Director so it has to be brought up at the Board.

A Deutsche Dethleff. My folks have already had leaky Lunars and crappy Coachmans, they’re back to hyper Hymers and after their most recent Coachman experiences (brand new, failed electrics/ water system/ new right hand side required due to leaks around the entire periphery) where they had failures every single time they took it out- and it was in for rework longer than it was in their hands- I’d only go German.

Started off looking at Hobbies. No-no. Very shabby. Tried an Ace and an Adria, booked in a Burstner then found this not too far away.

It’s the kids bunks that sold me, aside from it being in almost mint nick. They have a sliding door to make their own bedroom.

Air awning already sorted. All I need is some form of a latch for a sliding g door ;)

Well done chap. Just in time for the Easter holidays. :):)

Why thank you... Sadly not though I’m afraid. I have to get a towbar fitted first and won’t be picking the van up for a couple of weeks yet.

Cleared all the snow from the ML, took the kids to school - the schools were closed. Gits. Then witnessed 3 accidents on the way home, all caused by stupid driving in the snow. One of which was a driver crashing into a house! Now I know the ML will never be known for its off road prowess, but I was sure glad to have it this morning and it coped very well!

Anyway. Some CL woes for you.

My rear nearside strut failed as mentioned previously. Phil @Welwyn Merx has a new rebuild capability so the strut was stripped down. That’s where the problem was uncovered.

The strut failed as the piston had worn down to the point where the o-ring seals couldn’t energise against it. So. Lateral thinking required (I’ll be damned if I can’t get it rebuilt!) and a hard chroming specialist sourced who can rechrome and grind back to OEM finish. That puts the piston back to OH (overhauled) condition.

So, fingers crossed it all goes well. This will add ten days onto my repair time.

Interesting! Going chrome rather than some kind of ceramic Craig? We have our hose making mandrels hard chrome plated , of course they are quite big (up to 10” diameter) and 100 feet long so for our needs that is economically viable, ceramic wouldn’t. Just thinking out loud really
