Interesting! Going chrome rather than some kind of ceramic Craig? We have our hose making mandrels hard chrome plated , of course they are quite big (up to 10” diameter) and 100 feet long so for our needs that is economically viable, ceramic wouldn’t. Just thinking out loud really
It’s just replacement of what’s already on the part John. Standard hydraulic piston 250ba spec hard chrome. I figured looking for a different coating might impinge in the ability of the o rings to seal effectively on it.

You’re probably right there...

Do you know what was used on the roof mechanism? I have been using silicon spray rather than "oil" but would be interested to know if there is anything better.
Used Gummi Pflege Stift- recommended by someone on the forum. Purchased last year through e-bay. Has a "roll-on sponge" applicator whihc makes it easy and clean to use.

I also use Gummi Pflege on the rubber sills, i thought you meant you had the roof mechanism lubricated too.

Gave the white one a quick clean up after the bad weather we've had.

Noticed a little dampness on the offside front wheel then realised, after wiping it with my finger, it was where a tom cat had been "leaving it's mark". I absolutely stunk of cat for ages afterwards.

Today I got my car out of the garage after almost six months hibernation. It sprang into life without hesitation and my spirits lifted. I stopped at the first petrol station to let the tyres down to their correct pressure, then cruised 20 miles just for the joy of it. All winter I've been driving my late father's Peugeot 206. It's a fine little runaround but not much fun. The pleasure I get from my 230 is irrational but unquestionable.
I've done some serious shopping for cleaning materials and will enjoy finding out just how shiny the car can get, but not until the mercury starts rising. Warm sunny days are surely coming.

Today I drove 40 miles, then pulled into a random MOT station near work. Two Mercedes dealers couldn't fit it in until April. The random station booked it in for this afternoon. Weirdly, when I put the key in the ignition the horn went off. I assumed the immobiliser had kicked in, so removed the key, closed all the doors, locked it. After a moment I unlocked (using the remote), put the key in the ignition - the horn blasted again but on turning the key, the engine started. Clearly I couldn't drive away with the horn blaring so I've left it at the garage. I thinks it's strange that the whole thing happens on the garage forecourt after a long drive. I'm just glad it didn't happen in the middle of nowhere.

Fingers crossed for the MOT.
