Changed my rather dull headlights for some Osram Laser 7s, had another dust and vacuum because dog hair is a real arse to get out and requested a quote for a new turbo and installation.

Just put the battery on charge after a message from ME stating that it was in a critical condition. :(

It's been neglected of late unfortunately as the truck's been taking a bit too much of my attention. I'll try to get it out of the garage and take it for a little run round in a day or so but it's very weather dependant so not looking good currently.

I Fancied a CLK, bought an SL350
Tried freeing up the rear piston calipers after installing new pads didn't work well enough
Now to decide full caliper change or play with just new pistons and seals......tidied them up with paint anyway PXL_20230422_143402544.jpg

I checked these first and they are clean, clean rubber inserts, freshly lubed etc, free to move.
During our testing, (wifey on the foot pedal) have concluded the caliper only sticks within the first 4-5mm or so from a fully retracted position.
Together with new rotor, there is such a gap. If the pads had less meat on them, say 1-2mm, the caliper doesn't stick, relaxes as it should, in all positions upto the old pad thicknes. This is approximately 15mm travel of the piston. Sorry war and peace......could of just replied yes :)
Because I'm a gluten for punishment, I will evacuate the piston from caliper, expect to see corrosion on the MB steel piston.
Results will follow.

Sounds like corrosion on the piston with new pads making it work over an area it hasn’t had to for awhile

This , or areas of imperfections are sticking ,now that it's been pushed back in. It's good practice to clean up the edge of the front of the piston before pushing it back . Especially on aging calipers .

Blobcat and onefortheroad....agree with you both
May have rebuilt half a dozen calipers in my time, always find corrosion too some degree, tolerences are tight, so the minutest imperfection can cause headache.....still i'll be having fun proving it with a strip down.;)

Last week we had a week in Wales, Cardigan Bay area. Took the 207, the longest run and week away for some time (for it and us)! Glorious weather all week, blue sky for six whole days. Much top down motoring along coast road and lovely Welsh back lanes with the V8 backnotes. Very burnt 'forrid' and bonce but worth it. Welsh roads a joy to drive on, surprisingly pothole free. Drives like that always reinforce how much I love the car, though practicality dictated we should have taken the 213 barge! BUT that is the reason I have kept the convertible, and glad I did too!

We spend quite a lot of time in North Wales, and the lack of potholes compared to England is very noticeable.

I enjoyed the comfort of my S211 passenger seat yesterday using the car as my own private ambulance to hospital and back for minor surgery. I now need to strip the drivers seat and check all the air bladders and hoses as the passenger seat is more comfy!

It's probably a case of more wear on the driver's side...
