Arnold Clarke had nothing but black or white C Classes a couple of years ago, many of them manual...and many which they still have! Guess in their case it was down to the buyers getting a good deal!

White is the new Black, and despite what people think it does not
So it seems every other car is white now, and all the car adverts feature white cars and almost every person I know under 30 seems to have one.

When and how did it manage to move from the cheap lease/ex-plod colour that nobody wanted and become the must-have's colour of choice?
Hadn't you heard, White is the new Black  I think despite what people say, White carries dirt quite well, a bit like silver :)

Like some above, I had a couple of white cars over the years. Never want another. My first car - a Ford Pop, came in black or black but later I had a black Opel Manta GTE and used to spend hours polishing it (which guaranteed rainfall within a few hours!) but it seemed to show every bit of dirt and minor scratches took ages to polish out. My S203 C Class is Silver and I think it's a fairly "respectable" colour.

But those black and white cars had "standard" non-metallic paint and at least it was possible to polish out minor scratches.

Back then you could hide small scratches and imperfections especially on a white car by lightly rubbing the area with Vim/Ajax and then spraying on Pledge furniture polish! But I find nowadays even little car park scrapes require a visit to Chips Away and of course I have to pay for it because nobody ever leaves a note when they do it...

A company I worked for a few years back insisted that all of their Reps drove white cars. One of them used to touch in the chips and so forth with Tippex

I do think it is a trend. A good 20-odd years ago I bought a nearly new Mk1 Mondeo in white, and I got it at a knockdown price because of the colour.

I guess like skinny jeans and colossal beards on youths, it's very much in the eye of the beholder.

My CLS is white, When I get a new car I tend to go for a colour I've not had before, hence white this time. Plus all the other CLS's I've seen up here seem to be black so mine stands out lol. mercedes-cls-coupe-diesel_34806453.jpg

Sign of the times, white was the in colour so many moons ago, it has now come back into focus again.. I'm on the look out for a white Porsche Cayenne. And the New Jaguar F Pace only looks good in silver or White. Darker colours give it an Eastern European look, with no discernible shape

The same with many things. One of the more upmarket kitchen companies published a comparison of their new trendy pzazzy brochure to their 1978 one. Almost identical in style and colour.

In the old days, on solid colours the most popular were Red, Blue and White. This is because car manufacturers made these for stock and buyers that didn't want to wait for delivery on other colours chose one of those - thus extending the popularity further..

Not only cooler in hot climates but also easier to see on our country roads, where silver and darker cars tend to blend into the background.

Yep...my daughter lives in Melbourne and has a...white car.

MB cars are generally white, black, silver or grey. Pretty boring really. We're sort of dictated too on our choice of colour, if you dont want the usual colour then its hard to find the car you want but if you buy new in the colour you want then its hard to sell later.
