I thought I would nip the rumour mill in the bud...
Please don't bother with irksome comments about what you think I should and shouldn't have done...

Yes I have sold my '63.
No I don't regret it.
Yes I am sure I have done the right thing..
I bought it because I had the funds to do so at the time (Thanks Mum) otherwise it would have been way beyond me.
I love driving.. I was all too aware of the large amount of miles I was putting on the car and that is something you shouldn't do if a rare car is to retain its value..
The irony is that when I sold the CLK320 Cdi to my Brother he said "Let me know if and when you want it back"..
I let him know last week and he said "Nah... I want to keep it"..

So I travelled all the way to Bristol to pick up a rather nice CLK320 Cdi.. AND ITS NOT SILVER !!!

As some may know I have always liked the V6 Diesel enormously..
I have always liked the CLK a lot as well..

For the last 2 or 3 weeks I have been thinking about selling the '63

If I am absolutely honest it was never going to be a long term car.
Sure the performance was massive and I have owned a rare car for a while and enjoyed it while it lasted!

Dislikes......
Rock hard suspension..
Don't like the aluminium effect plastic trim (I prefer wood).
FUEL CONSUMPTION.. Yes I was aware it would be greedy but I was shocked that typically it was costing £120 - £150 a week!! I cannot afford that much on fuel..

No doubt I will be ridiculed by some but I don't give a hoot..
I did it for me and my finances..
I am not blessed with limitless amounts of money and so I have to live within my means..
Driving to Bristol (210 Miles) I used a full tank of fuel !!
Coming home I use one third of a tank.
In the real world where I have to use a car every day and not worry about vandalism then the '63 just is NOT a practical car.
I was offered a VERY good amount of money AND the CLK320 CDi I now own..
My bank balance is MUCH healthier and its a car I can actually afford to run !

I have said several times now that the V6 Diesel is smoother and more refined than the "63 I owned.
I 100% stick with that comment..
Some no doubt will argue.. But its likely they havent owned both ??
I have !!

With the money I got from the sale I have paid another large chunk of my mortgage off.
I am sure Mum would have approved.

Well done Simon, you have to go with what pleases you, not what others think you should do.

Now, details please! Colour combo, trim, mileage and of course pictures :) :)

Whatever makes you happy Simon. At least you got to experience a true AMG and have decided that it's not an everyday car for you. Now you are back in a car that is more suitable and that is good.

I do sense your disapproval Mr geed....
I allowed my Heart to rule my head when i got the '63
I am the sole bread winner and I now have a mortgage and err bills.
Yes everyone does but its all rather new to me and I cannot be wreckless with what little I have..

I dont actually know Peter...
Just looking at the photos and i dont like the steering wheel..
I might treat it to one of the posh wood / leather ones..
It has the factory fitted AMG suspension and 18" wheels..
I was all set to normalize it by putting stock suspension back on and 17" wheels..
But it actually rides very nicely and is quite a bit softer than the '63..

I wouldnt mind the DATA from the VIN..
But I only have the little green slip.. Does that have a VIN number on it?

Great car Simon.
I doubt you will even notice the difference pulling away......up to about 30mph anyway.
As you say, three times the distance from each tank adds up to lot of cash.

I think the people who knew you appreciated that this was going to happen Simon, and probably the best time to do it as well, with a cold wet winter on it's way.

Having spoken with you recently I know that you've done the right thing for your personal circumstances, and I wish you all the very best with the new one. :) I'm not a lover of diesel as you know, though I do recognise the refinements of the modern MB ones.

See what you mean about the steering wheel by the way, though I like the seat colour. :D

All the best with it, and may you have many happy miles. :)

You've changed your car,
it must be time for me to change my underpants again. It doesn't seem that I've been wearing these for long enough.

Nice looking car Simon and echo your sentiments. You have to do what is right for you. It's refreshing to see someone not living beyond their means. I'm sure you will have many a happy journey in this one.

Nice car Simon I love the colour combo it looks like Tenorite Grey which has a blue look to it. No doubt you enjoyed the 63 but I definitely see them as a second/weekend car unless you're lucky enough not to have to buy the fuel to feed it.

I like the alloys they look right on the car and as long as you put premium tyres on them I think the comfort levels are ok. My son runs a Scirroco with 18in wheels and the ride is excellent on Pirelli P7 tyres.

Enjoy the car and yes your mum would approve.

At least you got to own a 63!!! It's a shame you couldn't keep the AMG and lock it up. I'm sure the CLK 63 will become a future classic.
The 320 cdi's are great cars, so its not the end of the world.
