It's going so well...ESL emulator, EGR emulator and Airbag emulator. You can never have too many emulators.

Though, you may be right, I can see a pilot's licence in my future.

It could just as well be the key, the EIS does not fail that often. there are two types of keys on a 210, the earlier ones used a long key where the coil wire breaks. On the short key the transponder coil can fall off.

It can also be the steering lock, have you tried turning the steering wheel in case it is jammed as you insert the key.

a little more meat on the bone, I bought this car about 2.5 years ago, its been great ever since, I was supplied with 3 keys when I bought it, 2 off 2 button type keys and one button less key, the 2 button type never turned in the ignition, they would only lock and unlock the doors, the thin button less key was the only one that would turn in the ignition and start the car. I took the keys to a large key specialist shortly after buying the car, he put them into some type of machine and told me they had no transponders in them, stupidly I left it at that and used my one key to start the car, this key has now failed. after reading some of the threads here I am assuming that the coils have broken in the button keys, but I do not know how to get the circuit board out of the fob. I am afraid I do not know if these keys are the long or short that you mention as I have nothing to compare them too.

They are standard short keys, there is a coil that breaks off, shake it to see if you can hear something loose in it.

This is the coil that breaks off, they are the transponder coils that your guy said that they did not have. They all have one.

right, so obviously these coils had snapped off in both of my button keys from purchasing the car, and did not register on the guys machine, upon shaking they both rattled, I have butchered one of the fobs (it was knackered anyway and in need of new case) to reveal that the coil has indeed parted company from the board. so we know that they both need to be repaired or replaced. problem now is why wont the flat emergency key turn any more.

You can buy keys from ebay and keep the coil and the case and transfer the coil to your old key.

Did the metal blade ever turn in the ignition ???

just a thought can you remove the eis and bypass it to start the car until I can get it sorted.

No, one cannot do that. the EIS is the main brain for all the car, what are you going to do with your keys.

I haven't got a clue what to do next, I cant find a key to repair mine, and if I get it repaired im not sure if that will be the problem. any suggestions would be helpful

It sounded as though the metal worked in the ignition and that just cannot be so and that is why I asked :D

As suggested your keys are broken...and can be fixed.

But, now that your flat key doesn't work I would suspect either the EIS or the ESL (steering lock). When you put the key into the EIS you do not hear the steering lock whirr and release...so probably the lock. See my earlier posts as to what I did.
