Mmmm tyres it could be, I have new Michelins on all round at 30 psi, but consumption about the same as with old tyres, (Continentals )

Will re check tomorrow and report back.

ATF changed by MD on B service at 38000 miles.

Engine runs like clockwork, starts every time easily and revs very freely. DPF seems to give no problems.

Maybe the 220 is different, from memory, I'm running 38psi as per the guide on the fuel cover, also on Michelins all round.

Used to have a C63...
Guide for mine is 44psi when lightly loaded - as discussed elsewhere, ridiculously hard ride, and no discernible improvement in fuel consumption.

Run mine at 33 on the front and 32 on the back typically.

As an aside, local Enterprise valeter insists on running pretty much every car at 38-40 - had a couple of cars where not only was the ride ruined, but the steering was very, very -vague, and the braking shocking - ABS going off left, right and centre. Dropped pressures to 32 all round (this was a 1.6 diesel Astra), and it was transformed!

Pretty much dependant on tyres. With hard sidewalls, lower pressure would be fine. But softer sidewalls require the pressure in my opinion. I was also running 32-34psi as thought the MB guide was a little over the top, however at 38psi the grip seems to be much better (weirdly, as I thought it would have better grip at lower pressure), and it somewhat makes a marginal improvement on the soft sidewalls.

Talking about Michelin PS4 here.

That's what surprised me on the Australian hire car - 17s with, iirc, a 50 profile. Felt positively disconnected at 38psi.

I also live in hilly Plymouth & get similar MPG from the CL203 220 cdi coupe, in & around the city however on a longer run up the M5 the MPG improves greatly.

image.jpeg A cheap easy DIY option is also to change your air filter a lot more often than the 4 years that the manufacturer states . This is my E320cdi 2009 ..78000 miles , with new air filters , MAF sprayed with cleaner , EGR manually cleaned after removal , and 2stroke oil/cetane mix added to supermarket fuel . This is the best mpg I have seen in 6 years of ownership with lots of on the go mpg resets on the motorway when I'm bored .

Hi Folks...new twist.

Speaking with garge owner in West Cornwall yesterday who was driving W208 CLK.

He said 209 was re chipped/mapped to reduce emmissions, and he said I would be lucky to get 40mpg

from mine.

Suggested re mapping any thoughts, MOT problems etc?

utter rubbish IMO. CLK is basically a C class (with a little extra weight if yours is a convertible)

my 203 c class (220 CDi) could do this if I wasn't in a hurry

Yeah change air filter at least every 10k if not sooner.

That said, yours is 09 plate so is it a 646 220? I have 646 engine and it is strong but not as efficient as later 651 or even later 3.0
