Hi and welcome Matty.
How do you mean 'up to European spec'?
Sorry. What I originally meant was that my cl 500 is a UK standard with everything on the other side. I need to re-register in spain but the lights are not meeting the criteria. Wondered if they could be adjusted mechanically rather than spend loads of €€€ for the new lightsWelcome and as confused...
The manual for my 2000MY car says to stick beam adjustment stickers on the lamps. I’m going to look at the weekend to see if there’s a lever... I have a suspicion that Tourist Mode came in on the facelift. If you remove the rear cover of the light assy there may be a small lever tucked in above the bulb. If there is move it to the other position.
If not its new headlights.
Hello and welcome.
You will need to check with the Spanish MOT. Some countries will only allow a car not homologated for that particular country to reside for a year without permanent conversion.
A 2004 CL SHOULD have a headlamp cutoff toggle in the left hand lamp. This moves a bulb shade up that cuts off the left side “dogleg” and makes the lamp beam symmetrical.
If the Spanish MOT says that it must meet their standard, then you will need to replace the headlamps with LHD Euro variants I’m afraid. No ifs buts or maybes on that score.Thank you for your response. I’ve checked with Spanish MOT and it needs definitely their standard. Perhaps the togle can help. Will need to find it first though. When you say it’s behind the left light. Do yuu mean left when I’m in the front of the car or when behind the steering wheel ? And should it be a literally an On/Off button ?
Thanks in advance.

The toggle is a lever, white plastic, that moves up or down.
The convention on left or right is that it is the side given as when sitting in the car. Unless you’re female in which case it’s interchangeable and context- dependent
Great stuff. Thank you for the detailed photo. This tells me what I’m looking for at least Thumbs upIf you have it it will something like as circled (this is not your light):

There should be one on each headlight.
If you can't find it take a pic on your phone camera and see if you can spot it then - you'll otherwise be trying to do it by feel.Great stuff. Thank you for the detailed photo. This tells me what I’m looking for at least Thumbs up
I think the CL was similar to the 211 so the lever was not on the top but to the left of the bulb, left hand side if your stood in front of the car
