I ought to clarify my “comment”. Not for me, personally, but if this is the one on at almost £32k, I would much rather find a decent, proper, AMG - 43 or 63. One like this, perhaps:

or this:

Sold - 2021 CLA 35 Premium.
You need to factor in age though. The above pictured C63 is almost 11 years old whereas the FK8 is only 3.
The only downside I found with my FK8 was horrendous tyre wear at the rate of 1mm per 1000 miles. That was driven gently so I shudder to think what it would be like if driven hard.
It was the only car I've ever owned where I felt the need to swap tyres front to back.
My car was fitted with Continental SportContact 6.

Personally I think almost everything out of Japan at present is over styled with odd ball lights, creases, lumps , bumps and wedges just for the sake of it. It makes them look different I guess but ironically I can't tell a Toyota from a Honda from a Lexus these days!

The Type R is by all accounts an excellent hot hatch. A mate who has a short attention span when it comes to cars had one and pronounced it superb. That said a year later it was gone and replaced with a Toyota Yaris GR. It's only a fun car as his daily is (currently) an i-Pace. His history includes Porsche, BMW M1,3,4,5 Tesla 3, C63, Defender (old and new) and discoveries so he's fairly experienced at selecting interesting vehicles.

These are tricky blighters at the limit.
You're not wrong there!
I had a track day a number of years ago at Jonathan Palmer's in Bedfordshire. They had Caterhams, Audi TT, Lotus Exige, Vauxhall VX220, Integra Type R and S2000.

The S2000 was by far the one most likely to be heard spinning off the track (I hasten to say I didn't spin it on my drive).

That said I'd have one in spite of the evil handling on the limit.

For what it's worth my favourite of the day was by far the VX220 - managed 2nd fastest time of the day beating 2 staff drivers in the process (and boy did they get the Mickey taken out of them at the end of the day).

I have two mates who have written these off back in the day, but another pal who ran one for many years, and used it for many trackdays and he was very quick in it. They are tricky, but they can be mastered. I think it’s to do with the engines relative lack of torque, and the way it comes to life suddenly at very high rpm. It can spin up the rear wheels, breaking traction at unexpectedly high rpm. Tends to step out the back end at a such a quick rate you’ll need lightning reactions to catch it. I’ve been in the car with these people. They are the ones whose dabs of oppo are those really quick snatches of the wheel. If you have seen them you’ll know exactly what I mean. I’m a much more relaxed catcher, tending to just loose my grip of the wheel, let it correct itself and then grip it again. I’m not quick enough to be a snatcher.

Used to have a C63...
Left field, but if you want one that’s likely to hold or increase in value, we have one at the moment that might interest. These are tricky blighters at the limit. Don’t underestimate them, they’ll put you backwards up a lamppost at the flex of the ankle. Hell of a thing though. Proper screamer!

One of three cars I regret selling! Blumin loved it!

Enjoy the hunt and the car! nothing wrong with a hot hatch. The civic type R isn’t my cup of tea but each to their own as you say! For heavens sake I was bizarrely looking at Vauxhall Astra GTC VXRs the other night.
