The casing was cracked so j guess water has seeped in and rusted the base of the solenoid, then again water is a favourite of the 55

I Don't think this is repairable Craig, I tried removing that last solenoid using stilsens, releasing agent and a 4 pound hammer, it's stuck fast!
If new is too expensive a refurbished one will be next to look at.

I ended up with 2 from here over last Christmas

There was a £250 surcharge per unit until you return the old one at your own expense, and as you found out they are quite heavy to send two back will require some good packaging.

The guy I dealt with said if I contacted them directly and not through e-bay I could have got a better price, but I'd bought them by then.

An AP200 is only about £60 and can read codes for all the modules and disable SBC etc.

Works well for the money. I wouldn't be without something like that in my SL.

I always keep a diag tool in all my cars as you never know when a stupid error that can be cleared turns your car into a brick.
Thanks

I may invest, though I've had my for nearly 9 years now and touch wood all ok, I did get the SBC counter reset at a local place a few years ago.

Thanks Mark, I have dealt with these guys before on the number of occasions. There quality is second to none and I've not had any failures with their stuff either.
Part ordered now from elsewhere as no exchange was required and as mine possibly won't be repairable it made sense to spend the $250US ;)

You had these machined from billet? Or are they a special order aftermarket part?

Central bell is machined to the specs i supplied. Rotors are available in blanks and drilled to size.

New Varta battery in the W216 tonight. Boy, the battery tray is in a properly awkward spot - right underneath the bonnet hinges - stretching whilst manoeuvring a 25kg lump.

No errors on start up.:)
The battery in the 215 is above the rear offside wheel, underneath the curve of the rear wing. Almost no lifting room!

If you think that's awkward don't try a w251. First step is remove the drivers seat....

I cannot stress enough the importance of cleaning out your scuttle drains…

Below is an R170 that lives under trees - sycamore sapling growing out of the passenger side drain. Drain blocked and full of water - about to leak into the cabin via the heater fan (fan visible in second picture)
