Thank you all for your replies; this is really a great forum!!! The car is at a bosh agent / bosh service centre now (this is the same centre who diagnosed the low compression when I took it in because of the hard starting problem, at that stage it didn’t have a idling problem, still not sure if they were right or not but they the only guys around with all the expensive common rail testing machines);
I’m hoping they find the problem. Ill ask if they checked the MAF and try find out all the extra info that you guys have requested (like rail pressure as she cuts etc.) and also let you know what they find.
About the air bubbles in the pipes – the pipe between the fuel filter and first pump is stained inside. Pipes between the pumps are clear, they all have a covering over but as far as I can see (if I move the covering away) there didn’t seem to be any bubbles, not sure how noticeable the bubbles would be? (should I remove all the covering to get a proper look?)
