Hi I’m new to all this

I have a 98 e300td

I lose drive and my rev counter when a bas ars light comes on but only seems to come on when the car is warm. Any ideas what it might be as I’m very stumped. Any help at all would be much appreciate

Sounds like the crank position sensor.

Sounds like the crank position sensor.

Hold hard, partner!
Faulty CPS usually cuts engine completely, or engine fails to re-start after it is turned off while warm - it does not normally drop into limp mode and affect Abs(which seems to be what our OP is describing).

Before just swapping bits, get the car fault-tested. This will give you a more accurate diagnosis. There could be several more likely reasons for your symptoms.

It was the crank sensor. As that is the only part of the engine now that tells the gear box it’s running. I have put a mechanical pump on it. Thank you all for your help tho

Just out of interest, why a mechanical pump and for what, are you circumventing the issue as opposed to solving it.

I have a mechanic pump on it as the engine is going to be removed and place in a dodge once I have it running 300-350bhp.
