Sprinter 416 cdi /2001/2.7 with sprintshift and cruise control
Hi Guys,
I have a left hand drive Mercedes Sprinter based motorhome. It is a 2001 416cdi 2.7ltr 5 cylinder model with sprintshift, cruise control and ASR (Acceleration Slip Regulation). I was coming home through France using cruise control set at 80kph when the ASR light in the console came on and then the sprintshift dis-engaged leaving me to just coast to the side of the road but the engine running normally. Ok so I turned off the ignition and then re-started the engine engaged Auto with the selector and moved off. Put cruise control on again and the machine again went through the same process of dropping out of auto. Upon restarting I discovered that if I did not use the cruise control it would drive fine and I managed to return to the uk. So can any of you tech savvy guys tell me how to cure the fault or must I have it put on the Star computer for the ECU program to be re-installed?
Many thanks,
Wanderer

Hello and welcome

Sounds like it is getting incorrect wheel speed information. Check the reluctor rings on the hubs that they’re not rusted off or full of dirt

That sounds just as though it's been moved into "maximum speed" mode - which is very confusing when it happens by accident - but of course the light in the control arm is the giveaway.

Thanks for your input. However I don't think my model has a light on the cruise control arm.

If you press the end of the cruise control lever in, it switches from cruise control to a speed limiter.

Thanks again for your thoughts. Regrettably mine does not have a speed limiter only cruise control. I guess it is an early model.
