I can't think of any reason other than for dishonest purposes why anyone would wish to remove this information plate?

I know they are stuck on very well and its not something that can just be caught or torn off by accident either . What reason would someone want to tear it off ??

Have you checked what you have against a VIN Data sheet, post your VIN No here for a readout; https://www.mbdecoder.com/ and compare the two with your V5 document, do you have a CoC certificate, it is usually presented in a A5 yellow folder within your Owners Manual folder, all three docs should match?

I know they are stuck on very well and its not something that can just be caught or torn off by accident either . What reason would someone want to tear it off ??

It could have been caught with keys or something getting in and out. Unlikely but not impossible

Its not my car , its a car for sale that I was looking at . I'd previously emailed the seller asking about the car because Id noticed on a particular photo that it had had a very poor respray on the drivers front bumper area and all he could tell me is that it came in like that and since then I'd noticed this sticker and now looking back at the ad , he has taken off the particular photo I'd noticed the respray

Well, whether a private or trade seller, they should be able to provide to you copies of all three at Post No 07 for you to compare against each other and the car itself so you should be able to satisfy yourself that everything is as it appears to be. Any excuses for not providing the VIN, relevant details from the V5 doc and the CoC, and I would walk away and continue my search for a more suitable vehicle.

Yes, below where the VED disk used to be, I would still request the details from the seller and give them the opportunity to find excuses not to provide, I would interpret this as confirmation they are attempting to hide something from you.

I have messaged the dealer asking for relevant info so we shall she what he says . The reviews on his auto trader are all very good saying they're honest , upfront , friendly and go the extra mile .

vin should be on the door jamb (obv sticker torn off), bottoms of windscreen in a window visible from outside and it will stamped inside the car usually around an internal fuse box or light in the back depending on the exact model.

What model merc is it and year.

Depends on which vin number you look at...
