crank shaft position shifter

I'm trying to remove the main crankshaft bolt (engine still in place) but unable to budge it. Two questions ,do I rotate left to right or right to left, secondly , any easy way to recover a rocker cover but that's dropped done the engine beside the timing chain. All help would be much appreciated.

Does anyone know how much it would cost to replace my crank shaft position shifter.
