pinking

Hello forum. I own a 1997 W210 E320 with the V6 engine. Engine only has 80k miles & seems to run very nicely, but there's one thing that concerns me a bit. Sometimes, under acceleration or when going uphill (so that I'm pushing firmly on the throttle) I hear a faint but noticeable fast...

my e230 est 1997 is pinking under load, engine top rattle heard. also engine speed hunts wildly at start up, between 0 - 1000 rpm indicated, but settles down after a few minutes. local garage found ecu readings all at zero. recommended replace ecu but unsure it would be the final solution...
