Hi, I'm new to this fourm. I have searched and read the many posts around BAS/ESP light, but am really after some advice on cost of repair, and was hoping the experts could throw in their 2p worth.
Background:
Its a 1999 ML320 with (only) 50,000 on the clock.
On a recent, long trip, BAS/ESP light comes on, no other adverse affects.
The full lock left/right did not reset.
Took it to the Uxbridge Mercedes dealer, who are actually quite pleasant (although I dont use them for servicing because of the cost!) who informed me that their code reader tells them its a fault with Steering Angle Sensor.
Estimate cost to fix, £884.52 (pretty much 50% parts, 50% labour).
I know ML's are not the cheapest to repair, but...ouch!
So, I'm after any kind suggestions, e.g.:
1. Is this a job for a non-MB garage, and if so, any recommnedations in the Uxbridge/Watford area (or beyond, given the £'s!)
2. Any idea of price I should aim for?
3. Any chepaer way - e.g. can you but 2nd hand sensors from breakers?
Finally, I thought we would keep this car another year or so, but is there a general feeling amoung the members that things start to go wrong around 50-60k miles - if so, I need a cheap fix and then trade in for newer model!
Really appreciate any advice,
thanks
Danny
