While watching one of the may motoring programs top gear, fifth gear etc they gave the new C class CDI220 a 0-60 time of 8 something seconds

Is the new C class engind CDI 220 the same as mine and what is the official 0-60 for a CDI220 auto

my car is a 2006 C class auto wagon CDI220 W203

That's pretty quick for a 220CDi engine :)

my c220 cdi auto estate 2006 w203 is quite slow.

don't believe anywhere near 8.8secs more like 10.5

mindyou would be quicker if use tiptronic to change manually......but thats' not the point

It is called progress I guess. The 220cdi up to 2001 had a 0-62 figure of 11 seconds.

The 220cdi Estate on the 203 series did 0-62 in 10.5 manual and 10.8 auto. This model is still shown on the MB website as (correct me if I'm wrong ) the new model estate is not out yet?

The new model saloon is shown as 8.5 secs manual and auto versions.

Forget 0-60mph times. They're almost meaningless in the real world. What is far more important is the 40-70mph times. How fast can it overtake a 40 ton truck and back in again with as little "TED" time as possible?

50-70 mph is a good test for a car.

You don't tend to see mercs doing the old traffic light grand prix

Maybe your car is loaded with extras ;)

Electric motors in seats, COMMAND, sunroof etc doesn't weigh 0 kg.
Also try doing the run in an close to empty fuel tank and no passengers or luggage on board. You'll be surprised how much junk people carry in their cars.
Also do you have it "S" mode?

And don't forget to switch off the air conditioning if you want maximum power. A/C, on a hot day, will sap a significant amount of power.
On my old W124 E280, when you held down full throttle (holding down the kickdown switch), besides changing down to the lowest available gear, it actually disengaged the A/C compressor. That was in 1995, so I'd imagine it'll be exactly the same on current models - but don't know for sure.

Not tried turning off ac (Thermotronic on my 203) its just that kickdown doesnt work very quickly.

Use mainly in "S" mode and even 50-70 time is not that brisk.

Definitely not a sports estate but a very nice place to be nonetheless

Volvo's does that and have done for years as well.

Don't forget to also switch off the ESP as it saps power BIG time. Although I would not recommend it as it is, after all, a device that saves lives.

There is little point in turning off the Air con as the compressors run all of the time on the newer cars, cant see the sense in have air con at X £k and turn it off when you need it to save a few pence

Well, we were talking about making a 0-60 dash only. I personally never switch off my AC. Just due to the reason you said. Why spend £30-40K and not use it (although a know some people who does in a £90K car!).
