Dear all,

I have recently purchased a 05' S320 CDI and has an issue that I can't put my finger to the problem.
I have a kind of engine misfiring.
It happens in average every 200miles of driving.
When it happens, I notice the exhaust sounds like it has a hole in it and blowing, producing a boomy noise. When the car is stopped at traffic , then I would notice the engine rocking as in misfiring. I also notice that the fuel consumption drops by 1-2 mpg.
These goes away when the engine is restarted or it will go away by itself after between 5 and 10 miles. As soon as it gets back to normal, the car feel quiet and smooth straight away.
Tried the dealer but it proved to be difficult as it always happen during to journey to and from work, and the deal close at 18:00.

Has anybody come across similar symptoms?

I have asked the dealer to put it on Star but didn't get any errors

Your help are very much appreciated.

Particle Filter?

Just to stimulate some comment from others that know better than me.......but this sounds like the particulate filter going through the cleanup routine. What I don't know is if the behaviour that you are experiencing is normal. However, I know that some Vauxhalls have these sorts of problems with the particlate filter. Hope this helps and hopefully someone else might help.

Hi all,

The car has gone in the dealer for a week for an 'extensive' investigation. Not sure whether they will be able to find anything. Will report next week when I get it back.

Had the same think on my S320 (Petrol), It was a valve that was sticking. Took ages to get sorted but at least its not an interment fault. Once its on the Star the fault will note show as a listed fault but it will tell you what cylinder.
Best of luck with it.

Hi all,

My car is back from the dealer.
While it was there, they only agreed to change the pressure switch under warranty.
The new switch seems to be doing a bit better but only marginally.
They said if will have to pay for the DPF if I want to change them.

I am also thinking that if the normal interval between regenerations is between 300-700 miles, mine is regenerating every 180-250 miles under mixed driving conditions. It could well be that the car is not tuned/serviced properly and pumping out more black smoke tham it should. How could this be verified as the DPF will filter out most of the black smoke?

Any suggestions?

regeneration happens after about a good few thousand miles. you could have an air mass problem they mostly dont bring up a fault on star

Hi Liverbird,

Is it a fact that the dpf could go that far between regenerations?

Has anybody else here has a similar car 05' S320 CDi and achieve such a great miles interval between regenerations?

I am very interested to know.

Also, has anybody experienced the same problem and fixed by a air mass sensor replacement?

Thank you.

Well, after changing the items DPF, catalytic converter, oil, oil filter and ECU, the car seems to be running smoother but the regeneration is still taking place in around 150miles interval. Does anybody here have any other ideas what the problem is?
