08 SL350 front pad replacement

Hi, need to replace front pads and was just checking on videos before i start job but video mentions putting vehicle on star to disable SBC, Am i just being over cautious and its a straight forward task which i have done many times before. Thanks

Do you have SBC on an 08 car buddy ?

You need to be very careful around SBC as it can operate unexpectedly and clamp fingers causing serious injury.
The correct way is to disable SBC via a suitable diagnostic tool.

It,s an 08 facelift model and i,m fairly certain it has SBC fitted

When you turn the key to ignition position do you get a buzzing noise.
Buzzing = SBC
No buzzing and you're good to go.

can you just unplug SBC, no electric then no SBC?

You can but it may throw errors on reconnecting.

A quick look under the bonnet at the brake unit will tell you .

• 2003–2006 E-Class (W211)
• SLR
• Maybach
• 2003–2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class (W219)
• 2001–2011 SL-Class

SBC was phased out in 2006.
An 08 SL shouldn't have it.

Fast forward to 2m 30sec in the video to see an SBC pump in situ.

Only in high volume models. It persisted a lot longer in SLs.

Get yourself an MB specific code reader.
Check it supports SBC disabling and you're good to go.
iCarsoft MB v2.0, MB-II both work.
Also Autel AP200 should work.

Well it wasn,t the pads after all just been informed by a reliable MB specialist its the pump.

Turn ignition on and the sound of pump priming or going through some sort of sequence and when engine was running at initial start up same sort of noise, other than that nothing else, car drove and braked fine. then two weeks ago warning light saying brake service needed so assumed front pads, then today when taking to specialist for service and repair everything lit up red. Told pump gone , Looking into trying a reset so see what happens.

mercs are not prone to believe the fault is gone by deleting the error codes.

How many miles has it done? I'd guess at around 100k...
I'd guess the error was C249F.

If the code is C249F, there is a good chance the pump can be reset. (As you are probably aware of)
