Hi wondering if any can tell me if the vaneo 1.7 turbo diesel engine has belt or chain timing .reason for asking is I am starting to hear a winning noise from the engine any help welcome .the vaneo has done 40k

As far as I am aware all merc engines have a timimg chain and always have had. You will have to look elsewhere for your whining

Hi vaneo 1.7 td

All of the A Class petrol and diesels transverse (east west) engines have a chain drive to the camshaft(s).
The noise you can hear is probably from one of the rollers guiding the alternator/air con compressor/water pump drive belt.
