Hi all.

A (1980) mercedes 450SLC problem -

The vacuum pipe that is attached to the top of the distributor vacuum advance unit has turned soft and is holed (from rubbing against HT leads).

I detached it from the distributor end and unfortunately the other end became detatched from wherever it takes its vacuum source.

Could someone tell me where the other end should be plugged in? I have a horrid feeling it should be attached to the throttle housing, which looks very difficult to get to, even with the air filter assembly removed.

Any guidance would be most welcome as this is my daily driver. Thanks. :)

Many thanks Malcolm. I've tried searching for images and diagrams, but no joy.

You'd think that by replacing the hose in the distributor, the other end would indicate where it should be attached, but it doesn't. It's almost as though it hasn't been attached to anything for years! I assume it woud run like a bag of nails though.

The other (lower) vacuum hose is still firmly in place. As far as I know one is less critical than the other (only used on deceleration)?

I haven't run the engine since the hose came adrift this evening.

If I can't figure it out tomorrow, I might have to PM Myros.

Cheers Malcolm. All done now.

If anyone else stumbles upon this problem, with the air filter assy. removed you can see the vacuum port to the RHS of the throttle valve. You will need a powerful torch, long needle nosed pliers and a strong back.
