107 cruise control

My 1988 107 cruise control was working perfectly but then just stopped functioning at all. My trusted Merc sl mechanic has narrowed the fault to a lack of earth and presently inspecting the loom.Has anybody had any similar experience or know of common faults that might help with the problem?
Intermittent wipers also stopped about the same time!!!

hmm well all it relies on is a speed signal from ABS speed sensors.. if these are ok then i guess the throttle actuator thingybob (a motor attached to the throttle linkages), wiring or fuse...
