Hello all

My 87 420 SL has had prob's with its kickdown relay (KDR) (the fuel pump relay - through glove box) Once I'd opened it up to look at the circuits I could see the main relay in the middle is sticking.

We did a get you home by placing a small bit of card between the contacts to ensure they remained open - which is the same as bridging 30 & 87 (not sure if those nbrs are correct ottomh).

Anyway the main reason for this post is;

A. Has anyone had experience of replacing the relay within the kickdown relay (i.e. not the whole merc component just the faulty relay within the KDR ? Or is this a bit dodgy ?

B. If I should just buy a new KDR has anyone got any advice - should I just go to my local dealer, is there a sensible alternative ?

I do not want to cut corners at all, but at the same time I am not keen on chucking cash about without good cause !

Apol;s if this post makes no sense !!!

Cheers

DWB!

Update

Rather than bodging or risky non-gen. parts I bought one from Merc. Colindale.

For ref. it was £115 inc VAT (May 04)

Fitting was via the rear of the glove box (through handy clip out panel) and was as easy as pulling out the old one & slotting in the new.
