I have a frustrating problem:
The brakes are bad on my 1975 240D. I've got all new calipers. The master cylander is an ATE out of a 123 (shown by the triangular reserviour tank) and is in bad condition, I was losing pedal resistance and had to pump the pedal. Also the pipes looks like they've been very deformed to get them to fit, and the whole area is a rats nest. I want it out in short.
I've managed to get hold of a very nice ATE master cylander out of a 115 from Australia. The fit is fine until I find the tank fowls on the intake manifold. So this brings a couple of questions:
Could this be a left hand drive master cylander/reserviour tank (this would be odd as I'm sure it was a RHD car)? The reserviour tank angles sharply towards the manifold, if it was straight or angled the other way, it would be fine.
Could I get a different tank (this is the 3rd edition according to the official manual) that would fit the cylander body, but angle differently?
Was the space between the tank and the intake always tight?
Is this a product of a previous conversion - the chassis number starts 11501722 etc., apparently indicating an auto, whereas it is now a manual. Do they have different intake manifolds (surely not)?
Thanks
for any help
